Energy and Place
Essential Questions:
Essential Questions:
- How does energy production and consumption impact place?
- How does your sense of place, environmental ethic and understanding of our energy needs influence your perception and decisions relating to energy production and consumption
From my Capstone Lab, my partners and I learned much about the nature of energy. I greatly appreciated learning about what the photovoltaic effect is and how it works. It enlightened me as to the nature of how solar panels work and how solar energy is converted into electric power output. It also highlighted the abundance of energy that flows through our solar system and specifically our planet. I was amazed at the ease and relative efficiency of our simple photovoltaic cell. We generated an easily measurable amount of energy from simple everyday materials. This lab has affirmed in my mind the importance and necessity for improvement in the field of solar energy.
This lab impressed upon me the level of precision and thoroughness necessary to complete and analyze a successful scientific experiment. Throughout the entire process, from drafting a hypothesis to finalizing one’s conclusion, nothing can be left for interpretation. It must all be explained thoroughly and backed up by data. It is truly a practice of logic. It also showed me the amount of precision and pre-planning that goes into drafting a procedure and even a materials section. You must know exactly how your lab is going to look as it is being done, and exactly what materials are required. More than anything, the Capstone Lab gave me an appreciation for all scientists throughout history have overcome huge obstacles to prove unequivocally new and important facts about nature.
